Gaviscon Double Action 12 Tablets provide fast and long-lasting relief from heartburn and indigestion by combining the actions of an antacid and a raft-forming agent. The tablets are chewable and available in mint or mixed berry flavors. 

How it works

The "double action" formula uses two different methods to provide relief: 

• Neutralizes excess stomach acid: An antacid layer of calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate works to neutralize excess stomach acid, relieving pain and discomfort.
• Forms a protective barrier: A soothing, gel-like "raft" of sodium alginate (derived from seaweed) forms on top of your stomach contents. This barrier helps prevent stomach acid from rising into your esophagus and causing a burning sensation. 

Who can take it

Gaviscon Double Action tablets are suitable for: 

• Adults and children over 12 years of age.
• Pregnant and breastfeeding women. 

How to use

For adults and children over 12, take 2 to 4 tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day, when symptoms occur. 

• The tablets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.
• Do not exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours unless a doctor advises otherwise. 

Ingredients

Each tablet contains the following active ingredients: 

• Sodium alginate: 250 mg
• Sodium bicarbonate: 106.5 mg
• Calcium carbonate: 187.5 mg
• Other ingredients include sweeteners (aspartame and acesulfame K) and flavorings. The tablets do not contain sugar or gluten. 

Possible side effects and warnings

• Side effects: Allergic reactions (rash, breathing difficulties), constipation, and bloating can occur.
• Allergies: Do not take if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
• Contains aspartame: This product contains a source of phenylalanine, so it should be used with caution by people with phenylketonuria (PKU).
• High sodium and calcium: If you are on a salt or calcium-restricted diet, consult your doctor before use.
• Other medications: The tablets can affect the absorption of other medicines. It is important to take Gaviscon at least two hours apart from other medications, especially antibiotics.
• When to see a doctor: If your symptoms persist for more than seven days, consult your doctor.
