Gaviscon Double Action Liquid Peppermint is an oral suspension that provides fast, soothing, and long-lasting relief from the pain and discomfort of heartburn and acid indigestion. Its "double action" formula uses two different methods to treat symptoms.

How it works

The product contains three main active ingredients: sodium alginate, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium carbonate. 

• Neutralizes excess stomach acid: Sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate act as antacids, neutralizing excess stomach acid to relieve discomfort and pain.
• Forms a protective barrier: Sodium alginate, derived from seaweed, creates a protective layer or "raft" on top of the stomach contents. This physical barrier prevents stomach acid from flowing back up into the esophagus, which is the cause of the burning sensation in the chest.  

Dosage

Adults and children 12 years and over should take 10–20 ml (two to four 5ml spoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime, up to four times daily. Children under 12 should only take this product on medical advice. 

Important considerations

Gaviscon Double Action is generally suitable for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but it's advisable to consult a doctor or pharmacist beforehand. The product contains sodium and calcium, so if you are on a restricted diet for these, consult your doctor. To avoid affecting the action of other medications, do not take Gaviscon Double Action within two hours of taking other oral medicines. Store the product below 30°C, and do not refrigerate or freeze. Use within six months of opening.
