Important usage instructions
- Administration: Humulin 70/30 is for subcutaneous (under the skin) injection only. It should be injected approximately 30–45 minutes before a meal.
- Mixing: Before each injection, the cartridge must be carefully rolled and inverted several times to ensure the suspension is evenly mixed. After mixing, it should appear uniformly cloudy or milky.
- Inspection: Do not use the cartridge if it appears clear, contains solid white particles stuck to the side, or has lumps floating in it after mixing.
- Priming the pen: Before each injection, the pen should be primed to ensure insulin comes out and to remove any air bubbles.
- Needle and site rotation: Always use a new needle for each injection. Rotate injection sites within the abdomen, buttocks, upper legs, or upper arms to prevent tissue damage.
- Sharing: Insulin pens and cartridges should never be shared between patients due to the risk of transmitting blood-borne pathogens.
Common side effects include
- Hypoglycemia
- Itching or rash
- Allergic reactions at the injection site (redness, swelling)
- Lipodystrophy (skin thickening or pitting at injection site)
- Weight gain
- Swelling in the hands and feet
